2023 National Hunting and Fishing Day Celebration and PSK Knap-in Announcement
September 30th
Hosts - Kris Thorson, Steven Dazey (WDWF) and Jim Keffer (PSK)

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is hosting a National Hunting and Fishing Day celebration on September 30th from 9am to 3pm at Camp Cowles Scout Reservation, located in Pend Oreille County, Washington Address: 4161 N Shore Diamond Lake Rd, Newport, WA 99156.   Kris Thorson and Steve Dazey, on behalf of the WDFW, have cordially invited the Puget Sound Knappers to attend!

Their goal is to have around 500 youths attend and not only introduce these young people and newcomers to target shooting, hunting and fishing, but other primitive and traditional skills such as flintknapping. And since the purpose of the Puget Sound Knapper is to promote the ancient art of flintknapping this will be a ideal opportunity to do so. Besides, we also have quite a few people who can also demonstrate blacksmithing/bladesmithing and other primitive/traditional skills.

A little about Camp Cowles Scout Reservation - Located 41 miles north of Spokane and 9 miles southeast of Newport, WA, Cowles Scout Reservation began as Camp Cowles in the early 1920's with a purchase of 80 acres of prime waterfront on Diamond Lake. It has grown to four camps: Camp Cowles, Camp Fosseen, Camp Ponderosa and Camp Sunrise, covering over 900 acres and more than a mile of waterfront.   It features a large lake, a climbing tower, COPE courses (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience - High and Low), and a number of other Scouting activities.

In a word - a great place for demonstrating flintknapping!
