The Veterans Knap-in PSK Members Knap with the Veterans Seattle VA Hospital Member of the Puget Sound Knappers volunteered to teach veterans at the Seattle, WA VA Hospital the ancient art of flintknapping. This first 'VA Knap-in' was, by all accounts, a great success! As part of the Volunteer Rehabilitation Program, this was the first of what we hope will become a bi-monthly volunteer 'Knapping Workshop'. PSK Knappers Rich Russell, Woody Woodside, Tom Appelhans, Donn Paris and Jim 'Reefer' Keffer provided demonstrations on bi-face reductions, percussion and pressure flaking to a group of 8-10 veterans. Each PSK member worked with one or two veterans from 6:30pm until 9:00pm and we all had a great time! Both the PSK members and the Vets are looking forward to our next get together. Some photos taken at the beginning - no time for photos once we really got knapping! Photos removed pending written authorization from the VA. I've requested and hope to recieve this written permission in the near future.
