Puget Sound Knappers Window Decals

Puget Sound Knappers window decals are now available!

These window decals are based on Dave Rauschenberg's original artwork for the PSK logo and patch.  They are printed on 4" x 6" clear vinyl designed to adhere to window glass and specifically car, truck or RVs. The cost of the decals is $5, contact  to order or for more information.

Installation Instructions

(The first set of instructions are the way I've done it successfully with just one person - the second set is what comes with the decals - read BOTH!)

Step 2 my version

Center the decal in the window facing up and,
using 1” wide blue painters tape, run a strip of tape across the top of the
decal just overlapping the decal by ½”. That should leave ½” to adhere to the
window.  Tape in place.

Step 3 my version

Lift up the decal and peel away about ½” of the
backing starting at the top below the tape.
Once you have the backing started use a spray bottle of CLEAN water and
spray the glass underneath the decal with a fine mist.

 Step 4 my version

With one hand slowly peel the
backing down the decal.  With the other
hand use a squeegee to smooth out the decal and squeeze out the water.  Manufacturer of the decal suggest using a
cloth between squeegee and decal to prevent scratching.  I bought a combo squeegee and microfiber
cloth at Home Depot (HD brand) for about $2.

 Step 9

Small bubbles can be popped with a
pin and flattened out.

And while the decal is on clear
vinyl, trimming the clear vinyl from around the decal does look better close
up.  Warning, using either an Exact-o
knife or razor blade takes a fair amount of time and must be done very
carefully.

Tools Needed

Two people, MASKING tape (scotch tape may damage vinyl), squeegee, glass cleaner, and paper towels, Exact-o knife to trim excess material.

 Preparation

Using glass cleaner, clean windows thoroughly and allow to dry. Read installation instructions carefully. Best installed when outside temperatures are over 65°F with low humidity.

Step 1

Use the tape measure to find the center point at which to place your Clear Vinyl decal.

Step 2

Starting from the top of the graphic, pull away 1” of the paper backing, exposing the adhesive. Fold down the exposed backing to prevent it from curling back up.

 Step 3

Place the exposed adhesive onto the window, graphics facing you, and squeegee over it slowly. DO NOT remove the remaining backing. Place a piece of masking tape across the top of the decal to hold it in place

Step 4

Have your partner lift the Clear Vinyl while you peel back another section of the protective backing, starting from the top and pulling downward about 6". Make sure it stays taped to the window.

Step 5

While your partner continues to lift the Clear Vinyl away from the window, spray the surface of the window liberally with water.

Step 6

Have your partner lay the exposed portion of the Clear Vinyl down onto the window. Continue peeling away 6"
sections of the backing at a time as you squeegee from top to bottom. Once the graphic is fully-applied, squeegee from the center toward the outer edges to remove air bubbles.

Tip: Cover the squeegee with a paper towel or soft cloth to prevent it from scratching the material.

Step 7

Remove the masking tape and squeegee the top of the Clear Vinyl. Finish by wiping down the edges of the decal with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.

Step 8

You're done! Once the installation is complete,
your unique Clear Vinyl decal is ready to promote your business.

Perfecting Your Clear Vinyl

Most bubbles, (especially near the edges) can be pressed outward with a squeegee. If one cannot, use the corner of a razor blade or a sharp pin to puncture the bubble. Then, gently use your finger or a squeegee to press down the material and remove the air. Be careful and work slowly to avoid wrinkles.

Clear Vinyl may show some streaking immediately after installation. A wet installation will help to prevent this. Once the material has had enough time to cure (up to 2 weeks), any streaks should disappear
